Cabinet and new project

I finally managed to get a decent (at least i hope so) cabinet. A Dynacord D350 made in 1971. Solid 15 inches.

The new project: I just had to order Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounders (SPB-3) for the PJ-Bass since the Dynacord cab was cheap as fuck. :)

Hey Bowles

I hope you enjoy it.
Be warned: You cant control this thing. Its going to control you. :)

NOISE!

Congratulations Mr. Bowles

You might not know it but the Earl of Bowles, the King among the Barts is like a human clockwork. Every year he gets exactly one year older. One of the most consistent guys i know.

This one is for you Mr. Bowles. Maybe we might be able to arrange a date for the handover. :)

Addendum1: No, you don't get an empty case in mint condition plus some additional electronics crap. :)
Addendum2: Greetings from Alex.

Cry me a river

Something odd? Yes! The Cry Baby got some addional stuff to play with. I added a switch which changes between the guitar and the bass version and a "Vocal" pot. The vocal pot is a really great addition. It adds a lets call it a wah intensity control. Since the bass and the guitar version of this pedal are exactly the same pedal with just a single different resistor, this mod switches between this two resistors. This mods can be done with the Original Crybaby GCB-95 and some Vox Wahs. They got the same circuit. Dunlop has built some Wahs for Vox in the past. I don't know if they are still doing it. The next thing would be a volume mod because the intensity mod eats a slight amount of volume.

We live!

...2 hours, 30 capacitors later and 30 years older... The solton fancy is done. All the hiss and noise is gone. I strongly recommend everyone who got an amp thats hissing and at least 20 years old to change all electrolytic capacitors. I didnt imagine that the difference would be that big. However, the downside is that you have to waste at least 5 hours of your life writing down what parts you need, order them, desolder, solder.... Damn now i really have to get a cabinet in the near future. :)

What's it going to be then eh?

Red Box MK II Cabinetulator G

I just used this little thing for the first time. You should really grab one. That thing is great. I plugged it straight into the preamp out of my Fender 25B and it just works like a charm. I might post the results later on. :)

OMFG

I just checked the tube types in the Austrovox.
Poweramp: 4x EL34
You can get one for about 10 to 16 bucks at the tube-town online store depending on the manufacturer. Yay!
Preamp: 1x ECC83 -> less then 10 bucks at tube-town. Again: Yay!
2x ECC808 -> One matched pair for about 100 to150€ at ebay. OH MY FUCKING GOD!

Are ECC808 made out of pure gold? I heard that you can use ECC83 instead of the ECC808 with a little pin changing and soldering action. But I dont know if I want to do this... They sound different...

Some idiots are offering used EC808 for 40€. Who the fuck buys used tubes?

Fancy!

It's working! I forgot that i cut out some capacitors to read their values so I resoldered them. I tested it with a speaker that i found in a dead Sunn combo (Fender era, its just a relabled Squire SQ 15 Amp).
I don't really know if the Fancy is a guitar or a bass amp. It sounds great with both instruments. It has the vintage bass sound and delivers a very warm and extremely clean guitar tone.
I just changed the two damaged cabs so it makes some slight hum. It looks like the other caps are not the best anymore. But how knows, maybe the speaker is humming. I never heard the Sunn combo. Possibly it's humming because i plugged the 25W 16 Ohms speaker into a at least 100W 4 Ohms output. :)
Now it's time to test Mr Fancy Pants with a real cabinet. Maybe I should finally buy one. :)

I wont provide any pictures of my experimental setup. Some guys would kill me for that. Its a miracly why I didnt kill myself by accident with that stuff. :)

I hope to find some time to test the Austrovox today.

Austrovox de luxe 200

Fancy isnt so fancy anymore.

Well, I replaced the damaged capacitors. Result: no sound at all. Looks like the guy from forum.musikding.de was right. I have to change all capacitors. German "quality" capacitors from the 70ies..... bäh.

I got a new toy to play with. I might post some pictures later on.

Surgery!

The parts arrived! It's time for the infamous Fancy to undergo surgery. I'm still not sure if i should replace all capacitors or just the damaged one and its twin next to it. I dont like the idea of replacing a lot of parts in a vintage amp. Thats against the vintage spirit. I'm still lacking a cabinet to try this fucker out. It's hard to spend money on a cab a few days before roadburn. MERCH MERCH MERCH!

The parts for a Looper with blend control and a totally unique Fuzz Face arrived too. In a addition to that I still have to do 2 more Mammoths. Building Mammoths starts to bore the fuck out of me. These are going to be the last two. Stay tuned for some pictures, schematics and maybe sounds.

Fancy Amp!

Bought this Vintag Amp at eBay.
As you can see a Electrolytic Cap is damaged! Dont ever plug a vintage amp in without looking inside it. Exploding caps are bad shit.

DIY Pedal Board - Part 1

It was build from two parts of IKEA's Gorm shelve. You don't have to buy the whole shelve... I made two of them actually. One is not sufficient.
The only thing missing atm is the velcro and the effect chain layout. Its hard to make a layout if half of your effects are lying around caseless. :)

By the way, the power supply is hidden underneath.

Total cost: about 10€.
